GCI Newsletter July 2006

GCI Compliance Scorecard 2006Dear all, For the past 4 years, the Global Commerce Initiative has sponsored an annual benchmarking exercise using the GCI Global Scorecard. This process enables Companies internally, Trading Partners collaboratively, and the Industry collectively, to understand how well we are implementing global standards, the processes these standards support and the business results these processes produce. We would like to ask you again to complete the GCI Compliance scorecard during the July - September period - AND ideally complete the FULL GCI Scorecard. The use of the Global Scorecard has increased consistently over these 4 years. In 2005, 316 GCI Compliance Scorecards were submitted from companies with combined revenue of over $750 Billion. There is some crystal clear learning: - The first year companies participate, there is often resistance as the value of participation is questioned. - By year two, companies have understood the value and begin expanding use of the exercise across their business units (more countries, more categories). While the number and revenue of participants has increased over 70%, the number of companies participating - the number of new participants, has only increased half that amount. - Broadening participation - to new participants and across companies - will give companies and the industry a better, more accurate view of how successfully we are implementing the global standards and capability (like Global Data Synchronization) that we are spending so much time and resource building - and it will enable us to understand the hard business value we are capturing from that capability. The 2004 results have served as our baseline data point and we had our first look at progress in 2005. Details on these results and the progress we are making is available in a full analysis recently completed by IBM for the GCI (available on both: www.globalscorecard.net and www.gci-net.org). Today, we want to invite all of you to participate in two webcasts about the Global Scorecard, especially the Compliance Scorecard, which will take place on: 14 August 2006 11 September 2006 at: 8:00-9:30 EST, 14:00-15:30 CET and 20:00-21:30 Singapore Time Please find enclosed for your further information: - A note from Jim Flannery, Co-Chair of the Scorecard Project on this years' benchmarking - A Data Entry Shortcut Guide for the 2006 Compliance Scorecard - An Excel file on the "GCI Compliance Scorecard Sections" as well as two documents with the technical information for the webcasts.
